Job Summary

Muslim American Society Sacramento Region (MAS-SR) was established in 2005 as a non-profit organization. It is an independent non-profit affiliated with the Muslim American Society. MAS-SR has two major projects under this organization:

  1. Muslim American Society – Community and Youth Center (MCYC) in Elk Grove
  2. Muslim American Society – Social Services Foundation (MAS-SSF) in Sacramento

This job posting is for a dual role that will serve both projects.

  • As a Religious Director and Muslim Religious Scholar, you will be responsible for leading the religious activities at MCYC for 20 hours a week.
  • As a Mental Health Specialist, you will combine your expertise in mental health, your knowledge of Islamic theology, and cultural sensitivity to offer comprehensive care to our racially diverse clients at MAS-SSF. These responsibilities will add up to 20 hours a week.

Compensation

  • Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

Religious Director at the MCYC:

 

  1. Deliver inspiring khutbahs on Fridays and
  2. Deliver Friday Family Night
  3. Deliver weekly youth activities and youth
  4. Lead the development and implementation of a youth educational plan while ensuring plans are aligned with MAS Youth With the right mentors in place, organize a program for sisters as well.
  5. Prepare and manage an annual Ramadan educational program that is inspiring and
  6. Design and lead classes, lectures, and other Islamic educational

Required Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of Islamic theology and principles, with a degree in Islamic studies or religious studies from a renowned university.
  • Strong cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of the diverse Muslim
  • Excellent communication and fluent in the English
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary
  • Commitment to maintaining ethical standards and client

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Good Command in Qur’anic Recitation, following Tajweed
  • Three years of performing the duties of a religious director in an established Islamic Center with experience in fundraising.

Mental Health Specialist at MAS-SSF:

 

  1. Conduct client interviews, thoroughly assess needs, deliver counseling services, offer crisis intervention, evaluate clinical needs for appropriate referrals to clinical services and other resources, and collaborate with peer specialists and clinical team as needed.
  2. Religious Guidance: Offer religious guidance and support to clients who seek it, incorporating Islamic principles into counseling when appropriate and requested.
  3. Education, Training, and Outreach: Conduct educational workshops, Friday Khutba at various Islamic Centers promoting mental health wellness, seminars, and community outreach programs to raise awareness about mental health issues within the Muslim community and provide guidance on seeking help. Develop and provide training for peer specialists and volunteers.
  4. Collaboration: Collaborate with MAS-SSF and MCYC, with other mental health professionals, healthcare providers, and community organizations to ensure coordinated care and support for clients.
  5. Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate a deep understanding of different cultures and history of trauma it has endured and how Islamic knowledge, values, and beliefs, are one of the many steps towards recovery
  6. Confidentiality: Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions with clients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or other relevant
  • Strong cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of the diverse Muslim
  • Excellent communication and fluent in the English
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary
  • Commitment to maintaining ethical standards and client

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Licensed mental health practitioner (e.g., Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist).
  • Experience conducting comprehensive mental health assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing evidence-based therapy to individuals, couples, and families from the Muslim community.
