Eid Celebration with Nasheeds and Instrumental Sitar

Join MAS-SSF’s Al-Afia for Seniors Program on September 5th at 11 AM for a musical event with a presentation about how music benefits our mental health.
Presenter, Shahrukh Chishty, MS
Shahrukh Chishty was born in Saudi Arabia. She is the eldest and has 2 younger sisters. Her Father, Shaiq Chishty, is from Ajmer Shareef, India and her Mother, Musarrat Baig, is from Sialkot, Pakistan. She came to the United States in 1990. She received her Bachelor of Science in Bio-Psychology from the University of California at Davis and then later attained her Masters in Science in Psychology from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology. She has worked in the non-profit world from the beginning with her start in supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She later went on to work in the field of foster care and adoptions. She currently works at the Sacramento Children’s Home as the Director of Child and Family Programs where she oversees the agency’s Family Resource Centers along with supervising the Performance Quality Improvement department.
Shahrukh has had music in her life from birth. Her father learned music as a hobby as a youngster and taught her along with her sisters. She started with vocal training and then learned the harmonium and eventually, the sitar. Shahrukh and her sisters have performed at numerous state and national music competitions, attaining the first place in every event. They have also given numerous concerts throughout the years.
