DESCRIPTION:The preadolescent education and personal hygiene workshop aim to help children navigate the hormonal and emotional changes of puberty. \nThe workshop is offered at the same time in two separate sessions for Boys and Girls by Dr. Omar Ahmed and Sr. Nassiba Cherif. \nDr. Ahmed is a pediatrician with Sutter Medical Group\, Elk Grove\, with over 15 years’ experience. He demonstrates his dedication to children’s health and preventive medicine through his clinical work and presentations at local schools and community organizations about various health and wellness topics. \nSr. Nassiba is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice\, and a Behavior Counselor with over 20 years’experience working with children and youth in public and private schools. She is the eldest and has 2 younger sisters. Her Father\, Shaiq Chishty\, is from Ajmer Shareef\, India and her Mother\, Musarrat Baig\, is from Sialkot\, Pakistan. She came to the United States in 1990. She received her Bachelor of Science in Bio-Psychology from the University of California at Davis and then later attained her Masters in Science in Psychology from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology. She has worked in the non-profit world from the beginning with her start in supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She later went on to work in the field of foster care and adoptions. She currently works at the Sacramento Children’s Home as the Director of Child and Family Programs where she oversees the agency’s Family Resource Centers along with supervising the Performance Quality Improvement department. \nShahrukh has had music in her life from birth. Her father learned music as a hobby as a youngster and taught her along with her sisters. She started with vocal training and then learned the harmonium and eventually\, the sitar. Shahrukh and her sisters have performed at numerous state and national music competitions\, attaining the first place in every event. This is directly impacting the quality of their lives and it is distracting them from being able to focus on the right priority that would help them support themselves. \nThis event is designed to help parents and teenagers to get some tips and advice on how to deal with some of those challenges as well as to give them an opportunity to share with\, a coalition of prominent Muslim organizations\, which of those challenges are the most harmful to the family so that those organization can joint their resources to work together on finding effective solutions for them. \nThis event will include multiple parallel sessions with a mix of fun activities and activities for children and interactive dialogues with professionals and experts where parents and teenagers can get useful information which will help them deal with some of those challenges and also\, share their concerns about what is harming them most. \nVolunteer:\nWe are expecting around 1500 refugee families to attend\, and your help is very crucial.
